Wood Shop 101 (w/Show me how)
Valley Makers Association in partnership with Show Me How presents this two-hour introduction to the miter saw and measuring basics. With master carpenter and instructor, John Berry, you’ll learn how to measure and cut materials safely using the miter saw.
No experience necessary. $25 Registration required. Masks and social distancing will be required.
Limited availability due to COVID restrictions.
In this course you will learn:
How to read a tape measure- Finding the center, equal divisions of an object.
How to make your project square
The safe and proper use of the miter saw
How to cut with accuracy and precision
How various woods and plywoods react to being cut
Why wood ‘binds’ and how to prevent it.
What is a rip, what is a crosscut?
‘Seeing’ how to make the cut
The anatomy of common materials
Making “safe” cuts
